New York City, New York – Near Future

Alex Megas has unfinished business with the world. History might remember him better as Alexander the Great, a man on the cusp of conquering the world before death stole him away. For centuries he's waited in the netherworld for a chance to finish his destiny.  Unfortunately for the planet, as the first of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse (yes THOSE Horsemen), Alex plans to finish his goal of uniting the world under his rule…and then end civilization as we know it.

With his lover and bodyguard Heston at his side, Alex is in New York City as the newly appointed chief diplomat for the United States. Underneath his cover, however, he is in the process of securing a weapon from a Japanese scientist. A weapon that will wipe out the technical advances made in the last two centuries and plunge mankind into chaos.  However, just as everything falls into place, Alex's attention is caught by a grimy homeless waif who just happens to be the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. When the waif shows up in their suite later that day, Alex and Heston are suspicious at first but they quickly realize she might be part of their destiny.

A powerful empath, Madeea has been following a strange compulsion that has taken her from the safety and relative peace of her Midwestern home to the teeming chaos of New York City. When she runs into Alex Megas, Madeea realizes that not only is he the reason she is there, but being near Alex dampens the cacophony of humanity in her head.   Deciding to stick close, she sneaks into his hotel room only to be captured by Alex and his companion. It's quickly clear there is an attraction between the three of them and when the two men discover her abilities, Madeea is quickly drafted to assist Alex in his negotiations. Soon the three are lovers but with civilization's end at hand, Alex and Heston will soon leave and cannot take Madeea. Will they find the strength to do what must be done and leave the woman they love behind?

Marteeka Karland's new series has a truly unique concept focusing on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. With an idea like that, of course the future is bleak for mankind, indeed!  With a plot dealing with the end of the world, a story needs strong characters and ALEXANDER has it. The three main characters are vividly drawn and complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. Alex's arrogance and focus is tempered by Heston's loyalty and Madeea's acceptance. The story is infused with an air of desperation that serves to emphasize the emotional turmoil between Madeea, Heston and Alex. Rushing into a shocking crescendo, readers will find the ending both poignant and satisfying.

If you'd like to try something different, ALEXANDER is all that and more.
