Catherine Thompson represents the Historical Society and is most
upset when she sees a gorgeous man dismantling a bar the Queen Anne
hotel she is hoping to help save. Rick Eriksson takes umbrage to her
objections.
Rick
has not wanted to take the old structure apart, but economics have
made him see that the parts of the house are more valuable than the
whole to Eriksson Construction - the company that just happens to
own the Swann Place. Before it was a hotel, the lovely old building
was a brothel.
Catherine and Rick both have sudden, almost primitive urges to touch
each other. They hear voices inside their heads and suddenly know
information about the house that is not in the records. They fall
into each other's arms with a passion neither could have expected;
as such outrageous behavior is not typical of either of them. Later,
Rick's brother, Steve, catches them in the act, on the front porch
no less, and joins them.
Once
upon a time, there was a doctor named Thomas and a woman named Cat
who worked at Swann Place. Now those two spirits want something want
something from Rick and Catherine. What will be the ultimate fate of
Swann Place?
DEAD
MAN'S PARTY is hot enough to burn the house down with the vivid
descriptions of wild, one-on-one contact between Catherine and Rick.
As they set out to find more information on Thomas and Cat, they
also learn more about each other and like what they discover.
I think
Stephanie Vaughan had fun with this story. The writing is
straightforward, but I can almost see a glint in the author's eyes.
DEAD MAN'S PARTY entertains, even if a cold shower may be needed to
cool the reader off. Steamy sex, crisp dialogue, and a very good
premise make DEAD MAN'S PARTY a treat. I recommend it.
