The
Rocky Mountains of Colorado - Present day
Anita
Bennett has hiked alone in the mountains for thirty years, never
once becoming lost or facing danger in any form, until now. Though
she can’t remember what caused her current state of mental
confusion, Anita does know that this may very well be her last hike.
Almost out of rations and being tracked by, of all things, a black
jaguar, it’s only a matter of time before she meets her end.
Rakahnja has seen the human woman in his territory many times over
the years, but never before has he given in to the temptation to
allow her to see him. However, when he finds her unconscious and
injured, he finally admits to himself how much he cares about her.
She’ll never remember the cat that turned into a man to care for her
in her time of need, but Kahn will always treasure the brief amount
of time they spend together.
Anita
has had strange dreams ever since she recovered from her ill-fated
trip into the mountains. More like memories, they torment her with
visions of a handsome man who’s also a big cat. Impossible though
they seem, they compel her to go back into the wilderness and find
out for herself if her dreams are real.
Kahn
knows that he and Anita can never be together. Though he yearns to
claim her as his mate, mixed relationships never work. His mother
was a human, and though the love she shared with his father was
true, in the end, tragedy struck. His father was stalked by hunters
and lost his life, afterwards his mother died of a broken heart, and
Kahn vowed to remain alone. Anita isn’t the typical young lovely and
that makes her a refreshing change from the typical heroine. She’s
stunned to find that her dreams are real, and when Kahn explains
that he can’t offer her the life she needs, she’s determined to
prove him wrong. Love will conquer all, she’ll prove it to
the stubborn cat. The chemistry between Anita and Kahn is intense,
and she uses some very creative methods to bring Kahn around. Though
this story is a short one with no secondary characters important
enough to mention, it’s nevertheless a very satisfying read.
