The Unity Feast is upon the people of Hornview, which is a celebration of the alliance between the Horsemen and Humans. This alliance has been on going ever since The Plague that struck the human race. If not for the Horsemen, who change from full man to half winged horse, humans would have been destroyed. The Horsemen were able to find the Rock Blood, which is the only cure to save the humans from this plague. Plus, the Horsemen need humans for their survival, since no female Horsemen exist and they rely on human females to procreate with, thus keeping their own race alive.

Phillipa is the daughter of such a Horseman. She has an incredible talent with actual true-horses and has her own messenger service. One afternoon, Phillipa is delivering a message of importance, becomes lost in the forest during a snowstorm and passes out. Luther Woodfield-Shire is a Horseman who lives in the woods between Hornview and Midnight Cove. He used to be part of the Fighting Carriers, but blames himself for the humans and horsemen who died trying to reach the precious Rock Blood. As he is falling asleep, he has a dream about a woman lost in the snowy woods. As he comes to her rescue, they tell each other their names and share a kiss. Luther wakes up and goes out into the storm, where he finds the same woman from his dream. But this time she is half frozen and unconscious. When Phillipa awakens in a cabin with a strange man, she is scared but quickly realizes that Luther is the same man she had dreamt about. It seems that when a Human woman and a Horseman dream about each other, they are each others soul mates.

Luther is all for Phillipa becoming his wife and experiencing the joys of love making only true mates can enjoy. Phillipa is in the same mind set about making love, but having a mate, husband and children? That is not in the cards for her! So, Luther takes his time to court Phillipa and quickly Phillipa’s defenses are crumbling for her handsome half-man, half-horse lover.

Kate Hill’s WINTER STALLION is one hot love story between a strong-willed woman and her unique mate. Both whole-heartedly enjoy their physical relationship and understand that they are mates, but to work on everyday problems like work and family is a whole other thing. Phillipa is one stubborn woman when she wants her way. Luther counteracts her personality, which was enjoyable to read, especially seeing how Luther tries to “butter up” Phillipa with his own idea of courting. And when these two make love, it is unlike anything I have read in a long time. They enjoy each other in the stables, the woods, and especially when Luther takes Phillipa for rides on his back. For a fun and sexy tale that takes place in a wonderfully, descriptive and imaginative world, WINTER STALLION is a great recommendation.
