London, England - 1802

William Hall has everything life has to offer except the love he has for a close personal friend. He works as a Bow Street Runner under the supervision of Captain Randolph Burgh, otherwise known as Trent to his closest confidantes. William has been in love with his captain for years and would like to be under Trent, in the literal sense. A day does not go by where he doesn’t wish he could speak of his love for this amazing man. He dreams of becoming Trent’s lover and partner in every aspect. But he must keep his true feelings hidden because he is afraid that Trent will be disgusted by his secret lifestyle, since Trent is well known as a ladies’ man and even keeps a mistress.

Late one night Trent comes to William with a secret mission. London is being overrun with smugglers and they must find out who the ringleader is and stop them. Trent has been given some key information on where the smugglers latest delivery is to take place. They must go to the amoral, Snake Cavern. William knows this place all too well because it is an underground club that caters to men with unusual tastes, much like William’s. Both Trent and William will go there undercover to find these smugglers and report back their illegal operations.

As they walk on the dark side, Trent shows his true colors to William. He has known about William’s feelings for a long time and wants to act on them. William is quite surprised as Trent tells him how he enjoys pleasure from both men and women in bed. He too was afraid to let his own feelings known because he and William are the best of friends and he doesn’t want to lose the special friendship they have together. Trent bluntly asks if they can have a night together and the possibility of even more than that.

William is all too willing to embark on an affair with the man he has loved for so long. But before they can act on their passions, Anna, Trent’s mistress comes to him in a bind; Anna is pregnant. Trent can only do the right thing and that is marrying her. William feels betrayed and the jealousy eats away at him because he doesn’t want to share Trent. Trent thinks he can have both Anna and William, for he loves them equally but in different ways. How can they make their relationship work as well as trying to foil the smugglers?

Elayne S. Venton has truly shocked me with INDISCRETIONS, but in a good way. Her love story between two men in Regency England blew me away. Yes, their love story is unconventional but it was written with such powerful emotion and love that it was just as good as any straight historical romance found on the market today. Trent and William’s friendship for each other was such an amazing read. And the love scenes between them were hot, hot, and hot! I did find the portrayal of Anna a little too good to be true in her acceptance of Trent and William's lifestyle and their longings for each other, but when all three finally come together in understanding, their intimacy was so explosive. The only downside I could find was a certain love scene that takes place between Trent and William while they are playing billiards. Let’s just say they find a new use for a cue stick that may be off-putting to most.

Hands down I recommend INDISCRETIONS as one of the best e-books of 2007 and rightfully so, deserving of the Le Grande Mort award!
