Lyros and
BasSalaam - Alternate Universe
Thirty-Two Year
old Adama Fawkes has been queen of Lyros for the past three years,
ever since her mother fell ill after fifty years of reign. But Adama
lives in constant fear because she must keep her two year old
daughter, Oma, a secret. Oma is kept hidden as a result of Adama’s
one night of passion with an unknown warrior. Her childhood friend
and lover, Christian Valore keeps her safe because he loves Adama
with such passion. He wants to make Adama his wife but, even though
she enjoys their lovemaking, she only feels friendship for
Christian.
The only passion
she has ever had was with her first husband, who initially captured
her when she was only eighteen. After he was killed, she tried to
end her own life but her mother saved her from making such a rash
decision. She feels tremendous guilt because she knows in her heart
that her dead husband wasn’t her true soul mate. She has constant
dreams of another faceless man who will change her life and make her
soul complete.
Adama has one
major enemy, Councilor Sartos, who wants her out of the way. He
hires a mercenary called Hecate who kidnaps Adama and holds her for
months. She sexually tortures and abuses Adama for reasons she
cannot comprehend. All she cares about is her poor daughter who is
at the mercy of Christian, who left in anger after a fight they had
over their current relationship.
Soon Adama is
released to her half-sister Eleana Draga, ruler of BasSalaam. Eleana
despises Adama and will only spare her life if Adama renounces her
rule of Lyros. No one can help Adama because she believes her mother
has died, and Christian has become a different person because he has
become power hungry. She feels all is lost until she meets the court
physician, Kesim Trasain. She realizes Kesim is the man from her
dreams! Kesim feels the same bond for Adama as they embark on a
passionate love affair. Kesim will try to help Adama escape from
under Eleana’s clutches and hopefully they will begin a new life
together. But first they must locate Oma and watch for Hecate, who
also wants Adama back in her clutches.
Camryn Culter
has done it again with ADAMARE, the second book in the series about
the sorceress Adama and the turmoil she must overcome. It was quite
disturbing to see the abuse Adama must go through, but when she
finds Kesim, the love they have for each other is very intense and
hot. Their love scenes, and there were many, were very emotional and
erotic. This story has everything a person could want, from an
incredible heroine, nasty villains and action galore. Adama is a
character unlike any I have read in recent memory who comes out
unscathed even after all the abuse and sadness she has gone though
in order to have true happiness in her life. At over 400 pages, the
reader will get their money’s worth and be pleased with the result.
