Iowa - Present Day

Author Lannel Durant's car breaks down east of Newton, Iowa. A friendly trucker named Boogs sits with her until an older man, Alton Spivey, comes from nearby Grinnell to take her and car to town for repairs on her vehicle and rest for her. The delay postpones her getting home to Georgia. Lannie calls her cousin, Mary Nell, about her situation and finds out that her abusive ex-husband, Trey Durant has followed her from Los Angeles. Lannie has a restraining order against him, but she is glad to be so far away from him.

In a loaner car, she decides to take in the sights. A white farmhouse catches her eye as she turns down Jewel Street to get a better look at it. The three-story, Victorian-style structure is the house of her dreams...and it is for sale. Unable to get closer because of a heavy padlock on the gate, Lanne takes a look around the small, adjacent cemetery and finds a medallion with the initials, RBD. Lannie doesn't know she is being observed by Remy Devereaux, a ghost.

At the West Edge Diner in Grinnell, she meets Police Chief, Brad Wyngate. After introductions, he asks Lannie to sign a copy of her latest book about an abusive relationship. He is not exactly pleased when she mentions the house. Brad knows all about that house, but he is not saying much. He has even less to say about her neighbor, Raegin Bartlett.

There is a rumor that the house is haunted. The real estate agent tells Lannie all that she knows, but she does not know all of the history. That night, Lannie meets Remy in her dreams.

GHOST WIND is tightly-written and tells a story of tragedy, lust, betrayal, and love. I won't spoil any surprises except to say that Trey isn't as far away as Lannie thought and Brad and Remy have a past. This book has secrets that no one living can know. It is gripping, sad, tense, spooky, chilling, and terrifying at times. The mood is perfect as Charlotte Boyett-Compo takes the reader down a strange path. Who knew that ghosts make such incredible lovers? And how does Raegin Bartlett fit into the puzzle? If you are not afraid of the dark, and spicy, hot shivery tales are your choice of reading material, leave a light on and enjoy GHOST WIND.
