A town
called Nowhere in the United States - Present Day
When
Chrysanthemum Hollister came to Nowhere to claim her baby niece
after her brother and the rest of his family were murdered, she
thought everything that could go wrong, already had. She was wrong.
During a fight with the murderer, a fight that Chrys won, the
murderer got in one last strike against her family, he turned Chrys
into a werewolf. You might think that would be the worst of her
problems, but there’s one more thing, it takes a mate to bring a
werewolf back to human form, and like it or not, the murderer was
her mate.
Donovan Vitello, hunter for the North American Werewolf Clan (an
enforcer of werewolf law), has always yearned to find his mate, but
his position doesn’t exactly make females long to be near him. Chrys
is the first woman who isn’t afraid of him and he’s convinced that
if he could have gotten to her first, he’d be her mate. Well, mate
or not, Chrys will die if she stays trapped in wolf form, and
Donovan will do whatever it takes to save her and claim her for his
own.
HOWLING AT TWILIGHT is the second in the Going Nowhere series
and readers are gifted with a story that’s even more passionate and
fiery than HOWLING IN THE MOONLIGHT. Donovan was first introduced in
that book and I’m so glad Brenda gave him his own story. Donovan
isn’t like other werewolves, he’s a throwback, he’s larger, darker,
and has enhanced senses that make him different than the others in
the pack. His own parents turned their backs on him, leaving Donovan
with a sense of being unimportant and unlovable. If it wasn’t for
Susan, an older lady who took him in as a youth and helped him turn
into a respectable member of werewolf society, he’d never have
survived to meet the most important woman in his life, Chrys. Chrys
is the kind of woman who fights for what she wants; it’s that very
drive that enabled her to survive the attack which transformed her
and now enables her to ask for what, and who, she wants. The
chemistry between these two is off the charts and the sex scenes
will leave you panting. And lest you think the hot and steamy scenes
are all that I care about, let me assure you that the romance
between Donovan and Chrys, as well as the intriguing storyline,
really cinch this book’s place on my keeper shelf.
What’s
a series without secondary characters to grow on? HOWLING AT
TWILIGHT has more than its fair share of characters just waiting for
their stories to be told, and all of them promise to be interesting.
Sheriff Ross Kendricks carries the gene to be transformed into a
werewolf, he’s proven to be an ally to the pack and I have a hunch
that the next book will feature Ross. Dr. Amalee Aimes is the pack’s
physician/veterinarian, she’s determined to help Chrys if at all
possible. Lizzy is Chrys’s surviving niece, she also carries the
transformation gene, and though she didn’t have any truly exciting
scenes in this book, she is after all, a baby, someday she’ll grow
up and find the werewolf of her dreams (I hope). Did I mention that
Donovan runs a security firm that employs several other hunters,
wolves who have yet to find their mates? If they’re anything like
their boss, I can’t wait to get to know them better.
With
humor, danger, action and suspense, jalapeno hot sex and characters
that you’ll fall in love with, HOWLING AT TWILIGHT is a top of the
line read. Don’t miss it, get your copy today! One caveat, if you
haven’t read HOWLING IN THE MOONLIGHT (August 2006) yet, you really
should read it first, it’ll explain a lot of things that you need to
know to properly appreciate this book.
