Georgia and Anderson County, Texas - Present day

Two years ago, psychic Bailey Sparks turned her back on the psychic community to rescue fellow psychic, and friend, Karen Ridley. During that terrible time she met Mark Weis, a wolven member of Karen’s pack (Mark is an adoptive son of Karen’s step-dad Adam). Mark gave some of his wolven blood to Bailey when she was severely injured by another psychic, her cousin, Lawrence Daily. Mark also wanted to give Bailey his heart, but fearing that she’s too old for him, and still somewhat unable to accept the idea of mating a wolven when they are considered mortal enemies by the psychic community, Bailey fled. Fast forward two years and, what seemed like a good idea using her psychic skill of finding to establish a business reuniting owners with their lost or stolen items, has landed Bailey in a cage in a house belonging to, of all things, a dragon shifter. Dragons are notoriously territorial and very possessive, hmm, maybe this wasn’t a good career choice after all.

Mark Weis is currently giving thanks to God that he shared enough blood with Bailey to enable him to track her down when he feels that she is in danger. The stubborn little psychic has avoided him long enough, but now he’s got to rescue her from the Draco sapiens she’s entangled with. Oh, then there’s the small matter of his leaving pack territory without his Alpha Adam’s approval (if you don’t know much about wolven, that’s kind of a big no-no).

MAKING TRACKS may be my favorite book in the series (of course I thought that after reading each of the other books too). Mark is an interesting man, he can’t have sugar and has ADHD, two things that make eating out and resisting all of the available treats nearly impossible. Good thing he has one other craving, Bailey. Mark’s father was second-in-command of the Anderson County pack (pre Adam) and he was a very nasty man. He killed at least one mistress for producing an inferior child, Mark himself would probably have been killed (he’s color blind, making him yet another inferior child) but he was taught to hide his weakness at all costs. The thought that he could have any of the same traits as his father disturbs Mark and undermines his confidence in himself.  Bailey is an admirable woman, it must have been difficult to give up her family and everyone she knew to protect Karen. And her problems with Mark are understandable, as a plump, “older” (maybe 10 years) woman, she finds it hard to believe that the studly looking, if horrid dressing, Mark could really want her. Getting herself into a fix with the Draco sapiens certainly isn’t a confidence booster either. But Bailey is going to find out that Mark, and at least one other, need and want her just the way she is.

Brandon and Bradley, Mark’s adoptive brothers, show up to help Mark and Bailey out when they need it most. Runt is a young wolven who is integral to the story. Dracen Pyre Smith (the Draco sapiens) is certainly a fair representative of his species, quite a good fire breather and suitably dangerous when protecting his property. The “owner” who hired Bailey is, to say the least, not someone you want to work for. I think Bailey needs to check the references of people who hire her better. Hamilton Young is a Georgia psychic who gets to know more about wolven than he probably ever wanted to know. Readers get to know Chase, one of the wardens of the Anderson county pack better in this story, I can’t wait ‘til he finds his mate. There are other important secondary characters but I’ll let you get to know them yourself. ‘Cause you are going to buy the book, aren’t you?

Though you don’t have to read the first two books in the Blue-Collar Worker Werewolf  series to enjoy MAKING TRACKS, I highly recommend you do as you’ll get more out of the book if you have. WEREMONES (December 2006) is Adam and Diana’s story. PMSING (March 2007) is Brandon and Karen’s story. What are you waiting for? Get to New Concepts and get your copy of MAKING TRACKS.
