Collegetown Somewhere – Present

As a would be writer, twenty-year-old Chelsea Becker loves erotic romances.  Her favorite author is Jonathan Danvers and she daydreams of meeting him.  In her college library one evening, she discovers a leather-bound hand-written thesis of Danvers’.  It is then that she hears music and laughter and stumbles into a meeting of Erotics Anonymous, a private club that caters to darker whims and tastes of sex and secrecy.  Professor Odette Deveaux is the organizer.

The club purports to be a writing society … an erotic writing society.  Without stopping to ask questions, Chelsea eagerly agrees to all the terms of becoming a member.  Before her Valentine’s Day final initiation, she must obey all instructions and comply with whatever a mysterious ‘muse’ will tell her to do.  Then, she must write about each experience and turn over the story to the group for critique.

As she gets deeper and deeper into the erotic play that is expected of her, with costumes to fit the play, Chelsea yearns to meet the man who has been rousing her body to extreme passions and whose face she has never seen.  Chelsea finds that not everything is as it seems in the strange world she hoped to inhabit.  Danger is omnipresent and eroticism can quickly become slavery, swallowing up innocence and decency.  Who is the masked man who, to her way of thinking, has become her lover? Is he a knight or a villain?

Her roommate, Nikki worries about Chelsea.  Jeff shares a class with Chelsea and she has seen him at some of the meetings of  Erotics Anonymous.  Is he as deep in the thrall of the society as she?  Veronica Wilde has written a story that on the surface seems perfectly legitimate.  She describes passion in a way that separates fantasy from reality, something that leaps off the page and grabs the readers, reeling them in.  EROTICS ANONYMOUS is not an easy story to like.  It is thoughtful, carefully constructed, and leaves one a bit shell-shocked by the end.  I do, however, recommend it.
