New York - Present Day

Lila Saunders is sure that if her father’s business were safe, he’d be recovering from his health problems a lot faster.  Shortly after his stroke a couple of years earlier, the Ramsey development company made an offer for the building that holds both their house and store, and the pressure that Ramsey’s has put on Lila’s father is, in her opinion, killing his spirit.  With the city now getting involved, Lila decides it’s time to take matters to the man in charge, and pays a visit to “the Beast”, Ramsey’s ruthless leader, Hunter Jamison.  She is prepared to do whatever it takes to save her father’s building, but Lila could never have imagined the proposition that Hunter offers.

Still bitter over being dumped by his latest mistress, Hunter Jamison is entranced by Lila Saunders.  When she offers to do anything, his body leaps at the possibilities, and he agrees to leave her father alone if she’ll be his latest mistress.  With half of his face scarred from an accident, Hunter is accustomed to women turning away from him, but once Lila agrees to his proposal, he knows that she’ll be his.

MISTRESS TO THE BEAST is an interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast tale.  In spite of her decision to become Hunter’s mistress, Lila is determined to merely endure for the sake of her father.  She’s surprised, and not particularly happy, to find herself attracted to Hunter, especially when she begins to look beneath his boorish behavior.  Hunter had very little faith in love or women, even before his accident, but with his face now a maze of scarring he’s sure that no woman would be with him willingly.  Though he’s not very likable at the beginning, readers as well as Lila begin to see the lonely and hurting man he’s hiding.
