California - Present Day

Three years ago, Drew Thompson chose his freelance photography over Zoe Davis' love. He had taken her innocence and been overwhelmed by the passion she had for him, and his own response to her. Scared of his feelings, Drew had run as far away as possible. Now he's returned, and all he wants is to get Zoe back where she's meant to be. But the kitten has grown claws, and Drew can tell he has his work cut out for him if he has any intention of setting things right with Zoe.

When Drew left, Zoe became involved in supercross/freestyle riding, and has done everything she can to escape the memory of him. So when Drew enters her life again, Zoe is angry at both him and herself, as she finds that though her heart isn't ready to forgive, her body is all too eager to remember the touch of his hands. Is Zoe ready to forget the pain Drew put her through? Or will she once again put her faith in a man who could leave her at any moment?

I really wanted to like Mackenzie McKade's SAND ANGEL. But I couldn't get over the bad taste that both Zoe and Drew left in my mouth. Drew comes roaring back into Zoe's life and truly believes that they'll pick up where things left off...in bed. He knows she loathes him, but that doesn't stop him from using their first meeting since he left to try to seduce her. Zoe doesn't fare any better, as she takes her anger out on anybody around her. And also does some pretty stupid and dangerous stunts just to prove things to Drew. I enjoyed the bike riding and the four-wheeling, especially since this was a profession I hadn't seen a woman have in a book before, but that enjoyment was dampened by the characters.
