Ethan is believable and doesn't "play" at being a dominant.  Throughout the entire book, he rarely lets down his guard and embodies what it means to maintain ultimate control.  He expertly trains his new submissive, Alana, in ways that she could never have imagined when she sent that first e-mail introducing herself.  She is feisty and shy when we first meet her. The writer masterfully allows Ethan to manipulate Alana to his will, insisting on total honesty and submission.  He uses explosive scenes to make Alana believe that her fulfillment comes from knowing that she pleases her master. Ethan gets even more extreme when his training involves inviting others to come out to play with Alana. There is no doubt about the over the top sexuality in this story.  Throughout the tale we may feel a little hesitant while traveling in some unfamiliar territory of this relationship; ultimately, the writer encourages us to tread into some deep and unexpected waters to perhaps ponder the intricacies inside the mind of a natural submissive and the dominant who masters her.
