Pam DePalma led a great life. Her husband, Vin, was a successful businessman, and Pam was involved in many charities. But that all came to a screeching halt when Vin died in a car accident, leaving Pam with less than she thought they had. Apparently her husband was running his business into the ground while he tried to make a name for himself, and now Pam has very little money. When one of Vin's business associates suggests a way for Pam to make a lot of money, she's shocked at first. Provide female entertainment for lavish parties? Surely she couldn't. That's just what she does though, and Pam finds not only is she good at it, but this new venture is awakening passions of her own. Nothing like mixing business with pleasure.

I hoped that THE MADAM OF MAPLE COURT would be about a hooker with a heart of gold, who finds love and leaves the oldest profession. Alas, that's not the case. I have to admit, I find nothing erotic about a woman having affairs with multiple men, many of whom are married. That's not a fantasy of mine. Honestly, is this what we gals dream about? To run a modern-day brothel and have torrid affairs with men who cheat on their wives? Well, if it is the dream of some, then you'll definitely get it fulfilled here with Joan Elizabeth Lloyd's latest. I found it hard to comprehend that a woman who had been unhappy in her own marriage, for numerous reasons, would have knowingly created problems in other marriages. Naive of me? Perhaps. But I like my ladies to have some redeeming qualities, and Pam doesn't. Sure, she's a nice, sophisticated woman who suffered a terrible tragedy, and did the only thing she could to make ends meet. I just couldn't see the reality of it.

I'm sure there are fans of Joan Elizabeth Lloyd who will love THE MADAM OF MAPLE COURT. But I can't recommend it to those looking for more substance in not only their story, but their characters.
