In a post-cataclysmic world, men are extinct.  Sperm that was stored more than 250 years in the past has been cloned to allow natural births.  The children, however, are all females and efforts to revive males as a living species have met with disaster.

Randi Mayers designs male robots and dreams of recreating the real thing.  But the ruling council has outlawed further research into that possibility.  When Ellen Forte, head of Sexed Up, manufacturer of both male and female robots, brings Randi a horrendously expensive sample of true, viable male DNA, Randi may realize that dream.  The nano technology and memory uploads she installs create a perfect prototype beyond her wildest imaginings and the prototype gives her pleasure she never thought possible as she tests him personally.

William, as he told her his name is, violates several laws by his very existence, but Ellen gives Randi, who is a new employee of Sexed Up, the go-ahead to make more like him.  But those who are determined that men will never be resurrected have spies everywhere, and fragile new life is in peril.

The premise of SEXED UP is one that has been used several times in other books, television and movies, often with a monster or mad scientist twist.  But Sally Painter makes it fresh,  romantic and her twist made me smile.  Randi and William are not run-of-the-mill hero and heroine.  Each has the same childlike wonder of love and all that makes like worth living.  SEXED UP is a treat.
