The man they call Riker has quite the reputation as a gunslinger and a killer. Laurel Daniels knows this from the stories she has heard, but Cal Riker is her only hope to escape a band of outlaws who have kidnapped her from the train she was riding on. Cal offers to buy Laurel off of them, and soon she is switched into the arms of this cold-blooded killer. Cal may use her body, but he will not destroy her spirit!

Laurel is quite surprised when Cal protects her, and that means keeping his hands to himself. As they ride off together, she is not sure what to think, because the rumors about this man are certainly not true. He makes sure she is comfortable and has food and water. Cal has no intention of hurting this innocent young lady and will make sure she is handed back into the loving arms of her family without a hair on her head being harmed.

As they travel closer to Laurel’s home, these two learn a great deal about each other. Cal can’t help but want to taste Laurel’s lips, and Laurel decides that Cal is the perfect man to make her a true woman in the arts of love. Cal would love nothing better than to make love to Laurel everyday and wake up every morning in bed with her, but he has made major mistakes in his past, and the guilt he has may ruin any chance of happiness with his lovely lady of the West.

Emma Wildes has written a lovely Western romance with two characters who are very endearing. Cal is not what he seems, and even though he comes across as hard and cold, he is really a sensitive and lonely man who seems to be drifting through life. Laurel was also a pleasure because I assumed she would be a spoiled princess, but I was surprised by her tenacity and drive to survive. She certainly was no whimpering puddle of fear, and Cal had no chance in denying his feelings for her.

As Laurel and Cat continue their journey, the reader also learns how much Laurel’s farther Matthew cares for his daughter and the lengths he will go to so he can get her back safely. I was also interested in the side story of John Evans, the fair sheriff, and his own special love for his wife Alice. Their relationship was very comparable to that of Laurel and Cal, and I could imagine they would be like the Evanses if they are able to find their happily ever after.

If you are a fan of the Wild West and a hero who will protect the woman he loves with every bone in his body, LAWLESS is the perfect steamy romance that will make you go giddy up!
