Cristoval Vonatos was once the leader of the rebels, giving protection to those different than humans.  These are genetic mutants like him, a lycan, a man who can change into an animal with astounding strength and killing abilities. But he has been caught and tortured by Killen, who is trying to run tests on Cristoval and find out his genetic secrets. Implants under his skin are controlled by a small silver element that glows red when the electrical current runs through his body. For months he's been left naked in an empty cell, dreading the visits and tests performed on him, and lives day to day. What has he left to live for and what has become of his group of mercenaries? Then he hears the screams of what he thinks is a female lycan, and soon an equally naked and broken women gets thrown in his cell. Cristoval just may have a reason to continue living now as he comforts the terrified woman.

Dragana was dead, she knows she was, except something happened and she woke up in a suspension of clear liquid, hooked up to tubes, and brought back from death and the dear smile of her equally dead twin, Ivan. When Dragana breaks out of the container, she is quickly thrown into the cell with the leader of her mercenary group, Cristoval. Just to torture them more, Killen gives Cristoval an injection with something like Viagra in it, intending to harvest his sperm after letting nature takes its course.

Nathalie Gray continues her excellent writing with the ongoing action and adventures of the lycan group, and it has not lost an iota of a fast pace in CARNAL. Engaging characters, perilous situations, and team loyalty create a story that adds immeasurably to the mixture. Congratulations Ms. Gray, you have the uncovered the way to our deepest feelings in this stupendous series of evil men showing their darkest sides. Will Cristoval look at Dragana as the woman he never dreamed to meet, and will Dragana give up her wish to join her twin in death?

Cristoval, Asia, Cupcake, Liberty, and all the members of the mercenary group make their reappearance here and continue their ways of self preservation. Can the people chasing them overcome their years of hiding and creating havoc? And more importantly, will Dragana and Cristoval want, no demand, the death of Killen?

CARNAL continues the fable of the lycans, and the right to keep society safe for everyone, even the genetically altered. Also enjoyable reading is PRIMAL and FERAL, introducing this group of fighting lycans. You will certainly enjoy CARNAL without reading them, but why deny yourself the privilege? Roll on lycans, change the World for the better!
