Roanoke Island Colony—1587

Brenna Terrell has come to a new place to begin her life with her aunt, uncle and their young daughter. She has high hopes of making a life for herself among the colonists, finding a nice craftsman to marry, and settling down to family life in a little cottage. All she wants to do is fit in with the villagers. However, the Guardians of mankind have other plans for Brenna and their plans involve her gypsy heritage and witch’s power.

Since her adolescence, Brenna has warded off the advances of men while trying to convince women her gypsy blood doesn’t make her a slut. She must maintain her virtue if she ever wants a respectable marriage. One day on the beach, Brenna feels a man’s hungry gaze upon her body. She’s just finished a refreshing swim and her threadbare clothing is plastered to her skin. Her dream lover takes advantage of her near nakedness for some heavy foreplay.

Master Savage, or Tarian, is a demon hunter.  He exists to fight blood drinkers and vampires. The Guardians have granted him with special knowledge and powers to help him fulfill his purpose. He must prevent the Overlord from gathering the 13 Chosen Ones who will free the Beast from another dimension. The Beast is the head demon who has plans to rule the world with terror and death.

The Guardians have made Tarian only one promise: the Raven will be his love and companion as he battles evil.  Tarian has dreamed of her his entire life, fantasized their union for years, and now he has finally found her.

The danger escalates as Tarian spends his time with Brenna convincing her of their bond and coping with his unanswered lust. Instead of teaching Brenna how to chase demons, he is chasing her body. But time is running out and the villagers are in danger. The Overlord is changing kind craftsmen into agents of evil. Will Brenna embrace her witch’s power in time to save them all? Does Tarian ever find the passion and love the Guardians promised him?

THE AWAKENING is full of sexy foreplay and sexual need. The author does an excellent job of maintaining the sexual tension between the main protagonists.  Once they finally do have sex the reader will breathe a sigh of relief.  I enjoyed the book, but not as much I would have if the heroine been more consistent or if the conflict in the middle of the book had been less forced.
