Davin is unique among the Alvians. Not only is he one of their greatest crystallographers (a person with an inborn ability to manipulate crystals making them sources of power), he’s also one of the few Alvians with emotions. Though his position as Chief Engineer should make him secure, his emotions make it likely that he will descend into madness. However, there is one thing that could save him, his resonance mate, the one person who can complete his soul. When Davin meets Callie O’Hara, one of the humans living in the Waste, he thinks he’s found her.

Callie O’Hara is only fifteen years old when she meets Davin. Though her empathic senses assure her he really does possess emotion, she’s unaware that they could be potential mates. It’s not until years later, and many long conversations through communication crystals, that she learns the truth, and in the same breath learns she’s in danger because of it. Someone has learned of Davin’s attachment to Callie, and they plan to use the situation to their advantage.

Adding to the complexity of Callie and Davin’s lives is Rick St. John. He too could be a potential mate for Callie. Would a higher power really plan for an Alvian, a human woman, and a human man with nothing but contempt for the Alvians to share a relationship, or will Callie be forced to choose between them?

DAVIN’S QUEST is full of danger, political intrigue, hidden enemies and surprising allies, but mostly it’s the story of the journey three people undertake to find love and potentially, peace. Davin is a great man, his emotions make it possible not only for him to love Callie, but also allow him to understand the true evil of what the Alvians did when they attacked Earth and destroyed most of its native inhabitants. His shame for their actions compels him to do what he can for humans, even if it means putting himself at risk. Despite his obvious intelligence and compassion, it takes meeting Callie to teach Davin what humanity, family, and love really mean. Though Callie is an adult when Davin claims her, she’s still very much an innocent and protected young lady. But she quickly rises to the challenge of being Davin’s mate and becomes a confident woman who is ready to face whatever comes their way. Rick was raised by his father with all of the old human beliefs, including the one that says a relationship is between one man and one woman. This, along with Davin being an Alvian, creates quite a stumbling block for Rick when he’s forced to confront his feelings for Callie. Can he deny the only woman he’s ever loved, and if he doesn’t, can he accept Davin’s place in her heart? Emotions run high in this story, and you won’t know until the very end how, or if, these three lonely people will end up together.

If you’ve read the first book in the Resonance Mates series, HARA’S LEGACY (June 2007), you’re sure to recognize many of the secondary characters in this story. Callie’s parents were at the center of that book and they’re also integral to this book. Mara, an Alvian scientist (as well as Callie’s half-brother’s biological mother), and Grady Prime (an Alvian warrior), were also in the first book and continue to be important in this one. The Alvian Councilors are many and their intentions towards humanity, and Davin, can be both unintentionally cruel and surprisingly kind, though quite frankly, any kindness they bestow must have a logical reason behind it that’s beneficial to them.

With twists and turns that appear out of nowhere, and characters who are unique and fully developed, DAVIN’S QUEST proves yet again that Bianca D’Arc is truly talented. Don’t miss the latest book in the Resonance Mates series, stop by Samhain today to get your copy.
