A MATE'S RISK – Cara Carnes

 When Melinda Morgan agrees to let a friend lead an extracurricular history project at her house, Melinda has no clue what the night will reveal.  Supposedly, if one eats dinner facing a mirror in the dark, their true love will be revealed in the mirror.  With a healthy dose of doubt, Melinda partakes of the plan.  What happens to her surpasses even her wildest imaginings. 

When Djar Malaks feels her thoughts across the dimensions, he knows he is the one that must answer.  Never mind that he is risking his life to be with Melinda; her passion calls to something he has not felt in eons.  Taken from his home and forced to serve the gods for eternity, he has given up on anything sparking his interest.  Melinda’s thoughts soon prove him wrong.  For two days they are as close as lovers can get, but will a vengeful god take it all away from them?

A MATE’S RISK is a story that has more than surface meaning. Ms. Carnes manages to skillfully combine passion, compassion, sacrifice, and love in one book that will be hard to stop reading.  Melinda has the same doubts about herself as most women face at one time or another, but Djar soon puts all her worries to waste.  While we don’t learn as much about Melinda as we do Djar, she is more than just a surface character.  For a story that will remain in your thoughts for a long time, check out A MATE’S RISK.
