Commander Kel Gallico is known for his unswerving dedication to enforcing the rules of the federation. Young for his position, he commands the respect of his crew by being a fair man who keeps a clear head at all times. Unfortunately, when one of his most talented pilots, Lieutenant Peyton Valmont, disobeys a multitude of rules, she has to be punished. Granted, she disobeyed orders in an effort to save numerous people, becoming a heroine in the process, but rules are rules. He does give her the option to choose from three different sentences, he just doesn’t foresee her picking the one that will guarantee his clear head goes right out the window.

Yes, Peyton is sorry she had to disobey orders, and she knew when she did so she’d have to pay the price, but saving her sister and the others who were still on Epsilon was worth it. Unfortunately, six months without piloting her ship or losing a rank certainly don’t appeal when she’s faced with those options. But the third option, a month of sexual servitude (an option created due to the enhanced sex drives of S-species men), doesn’t sound so bad, especially when it’s the only way she’ll ever get to know Kel and his second in command, Jake Naiad, better. 

Punishment has never been quite this delicious. Of course, there’s a complication or two headed Kel and Peyton’s way; a love they didn’t expect, and a ship full of escaped convicts with the worst sorts of records headed for a defenseless planet.

Kel is one seriously sexy man (a given since he’s an S-species; a genetically enhanced Superhuman, but still) and his honorable nature only makes him more attractive. Just the kind of man to make a woman glad she’s UNDER HIS COMMAND. Peyton is talented, dedicated and stubborn to the core. She just never realized what a sensual creature she was until she ends up serving Kel and Jake’s needs. Jake is perceptive, handsome and has a teasing way about him that makes him great fun to be around. He’s also Kel’s best friend and one of the first to realize that Kel and Peyton’s connection isn’t just about great sex. Poor things, Kel and Peyton have a bit of trouble accepting it themselves. After all, why would Kel find such a disobedient little thing appealing? She’s bound to flout his authority constantly. Then again, maybe it’s that fiery spirit that makes her so attractive. For her part, Peyton always believed the icy façade Kel shows to the world. She had no idea he’d be such a tender lover, why the man even enjoys cuddling! Perhaps, allowing something other than duty into her life wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.

Peyton’s sister, Dr. Tara Valmont, has an unfortunate tendency to rush into situations with very little forethought. Luckily, her little sis has always been there to rescue her when things go badly. Never one to pass up a chance for some very enjoyable recreational sex, she’s got her eye on Will Janssen, the governor of Epsilon’s son (and another of those rescued by Peyton). Odd choice though since he’s a mild-mannered, cautious man with a bit of a romantic streak, not exactly Tara’s usual type. Readers just may get a bonus romance when these two are forced to spend some time together aboard Kel’s ship.

The third in The Starlight Chronicles series, this book has been written as a standalone so if you haven’t read PALE STARS IN HER EYES (December 2007) or THE COVENANT (August 2008), you won’t be lost. However, I recommend you do read them as they’re just great stories. With plenty of romance, some very hot sex scenes and enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat, UNDER HIS COMMAND gives readers exactly what they want, a romance with plenty of kick.
