The Shlictah

After ten years in the militia, Sidious Marcone has risen to the rank of Captain, commander of all troops and third in line to the Prime Minister.  He’s also a highly placed spy for the rebellion.  Sidious is tired of attacking planets so the Prime Minister can take them over; of being the cruel and merciless captain who intimidates his soldiers; and of the double life he lives that makes a personal life an impossibility.  He wants all of this to end but, instead, he has to make plans to invade a planet called Earth.

Mikayla Adkins is not having a good day.  After oversleeping, she arrives at work to discover that Earth is being invaded by aliens, and the office will be closing until further notice.  Mikayla decides to join her mother in Florida, taking her friend Krista along.  As she travels though, Mikayla begins to get the feeling that something is going to happen, and instructs Krista on how to reach her mother.  Stopping at a rest stop, Mikayla is suddenly confronted by two aliens, and before she knows what’s going on, she finds herself on a spaceship looking down on Earth.  Her attempt to escape leads her to a mountain of a man who, in spite of his strength, doesn’t scare her in the least.  How can she be attracted to the man who is responsible for destroying her home?

Sidious is leading a dangerous double life and putting his own happiness on hold to do so, but when he meets his CAPTIVE, all bets are off.  Mikayla’s only previous relationship was an abusive one that she managed to escape.  She knows a little something about hiding her fears from those with power over her, now she needs to learn how to control her body’s reaction to Sidious.  Their meeting are tumultuous and erotic, but Mikayla struggles with her guilt over lusting after the enemy.

The prequel to DESTINED 4 TWO, this story sets up some of the later characters, and scenarios.  Secondary characters include Sidious’ family: his older brother Stefan, and adopted brother Taron, who lead the rebellion and his parents Damon and Kaylar. Agnus, a family friend who runs the bar on the Shlictah, also becomes Mikayla’s boss,  and finally, Mikayla’s friend Krista.  As many of these people are mentioned in subsequent books, hopefully they will be getting their own stories in the future.  Since CAPTIVE takes place before the earlier releases, it’s not necessary to have read them first in order to enjoy this book.

An engaging sci-fi romance, look for CAPTIVE.
