Present Day
As a member of
the band The New Rakes, Kara gets off on the excitement of her
audience and shows them her appreciation differently than most
people would expect. She’s reinvented herself as Lady Lick, and for
her it’s all about the lustiness and how well she can get someone
else off while she’s on stage. She was involved at one time in an
affair with Tam, their guitarist. Something about him still reels
her in and she’s addicted, but when they’re offered the record deal
of a lifetime by Mike Greene, things begin to change, and not
necessarily for the better.
There are some
nice added benefits when you’re involved with the man in charge of
Blue Star Records, but as sexy as Mike is, she still can’t help
feeling that she might be selling her soul and those of her band
members. Kara wonders if the deal and the sex are worth it all, and
if she’s made a terrible mistake with her’s and Tam’s relationship.
As the lead of
the band, THE NEW RAKES begins with a bang as the reader is
introduced to the feisty and wantonly playful Kara. In fact, more
and more people have been coming to check out the band to find out
if everything they’ve been hearing is really true. I liked Kara
right away because of her brazen and blatant take on life, and it’s
easy to see how Mike and Tam were attracted. Tam is striking and
ultra sexy, not at all intimidated by Kara’s straightforward
approach to life. While Mike is powerful, handsome and dominant,
something about his demeanor left me cold, and that’s a tribute to
the writer’s ability to create such a believable character. The
other players in the book are just as engrossing and add much to the
story. Skillfully written with street-smart dialogue and amazingly
hot sex, there was never a dull moment, as I wondered how this tale
would end. The book itself is intriguing, but more importantly, the
reader will find herself coping with the emotional struggle of
what’s really important in life.
